Why The Law of Attraction Does Not Work

law of attraction

Everywhere you go people are talking about the Law of Attraction. Especially since the release of the Secret, has this subject become a common, mainstream topic. Now, more than ever, people are beginning to realize that they actually have much more control over their life than they ever imagined.

As exciting as this ‘new awakening’ may sound, the information itself has been around for a very long time.  What is new is the level of curiosity and acceptance for this kind of knowledge. Science and the media have both contributed greatly to the current level of growth in this area.

For one thing, advances in the field of quantum physics over the last fifty years, are beginning to provide scientific validation for these misunderstood and misrepresented creative concepts. It is no longer possible to blow off the reality of vibrational influences on our physical reality. It is not about whether or not the there is any science behind the concept that the Law of Attraction claims to be based on. Now, it is more about figuring out exactly how to best make use of it.

Science + mass media

Recent scientific findings, combined with the power of the Internet and other forms of mass media, have generated a huge amount of interest in the entire field of conscious manifestation and the law of attraction. It truly is a global phenomenon.

The concept of abundance appeals to everyone, for obvious reasons. The very thought of being able to tap into a limitless source to provide that abundance is almost irresistible. Because of this irresistibleness, a degree of caution is appropriate.

There are a lot of people jumping on the Law of Attraction bandwagon. Many of them are extremely qualified and quite capable of coaching others to combine the power of visualization with the ability to take purposeful action toward creating a life of abundance. Unfortunately, such a lucrative and wide-open field is also attracting those who are only interested in their own financial growth. I am not here to point any fingers or rain on anybody’s parade. I just want to encourage you to use sound judgment when deciding whose advice to listen to, or pay for.

So, here’s the big question:

With so many people applying the Law of attraction as they understand it, why have so few of them been able to manifest what they really want?

Obviously, there’s been a serious lack of results. Otherwise there would not be any market for follow-up products.

How many secrets are there behind “The Secret” anyway?

One simple reason the so called Law of Attraction fails to work for so many people is…(Drum roll please)

Limiting beliefs!

You see, it is not because the concept of visualization doesn’t play a role in creating positive change. Rather, it is because most people are carrying around hidden beliefs that prevent it from working for them. You can sit around and visualized, imagine, and feel your desires all day long. But if you do not deal with your limiting beliefs, then you are not going to produce your intended result because you will never take the action required. It takes action to create a reaction.

That’s right; you are not going to manifest that new car, new house, perfect partner, or anything else, because your limiting beliefs will not allow that to happen. They will stop you in your tracks.

To be honest, I am amazed that more people have not addressed this problem. Our beliefs about what is and is not possible, exert a huge influence on our lives. Limiting beliefs are the number one reason why people fail to reach their goals, and achieve their dreams.

You simply cannot visualize your way past them

They need to be addressed. This does not mean that you need to go through years of therapy to uncover your deepest, darkest secrets. It’s not like that at all. There are actually simple techniques for discovering and dismantling negative beliefs. But ignoring them or wishing they would just go away will not help.

This is one of the reasons why the entire first module of  Find Your TRUE SELF is devoted to this process. Until we understand our beliefs, and modify them to harmonize with our goals and values, we can never achieve lasting results.

No matter what we do or where we go in life, our beliefs go with us. Usually they exert their influence on a subconscious level. Limiting beliefs are like in a stealth fighter that does not show up on our radar. This means that they are not generally vulnerable to logic or reason, unless we can find a way to expose them to our conscious mind.

What’s the difference?

So why are some people able to use visualization (the foundation of the Law of Attraction) to manifest incredible abundance? Everybody’s life experience is different, and this affects their belief systems. While some people’s lives and dispositions have fostered the development of limiting beliefs, others have developed empowering beliefs. Those with empowering beliefs find it much easier to apply visualization (the Law of attraction) and follow up by taking action in their own behalf.

If you are like millions of other people who watched the Secret, got all fired up about the law of attraction, and have yet to produce any substantial results, this article should resonate with you. The reason for your lack of results probably lies somewhere deep inside of your subconscious. Once you are able to clear your limiting beliefs, you will be in a perfect position to take decisive action toward manifesting abundance into your life.

    Hello Jonathan,

It’s been awhile, how are you? Hope you’re doing great.

Yea, you’re right, after the release of The Secret, the whole world goes gaga about The Law of Attraction. I must admit that The Secret is a huge success and actually they’ve profited a lot from this alone.

Another thing that you mentioned is our beliefs. Again, I can’t agree more with you. Everyone goes through their life differently and everyone has their own experiences.

This will lead them to develop different beliefs and hence, making different decision and achieving different results.

However, to me, merely believing is not enough, we all need to take action to make things happen. After all, success is about getting things done. There is no magic wand or magic pill in this world. So take the necessary action and you’ll see the results.

    Hi Jonathan,

The law of attraction does work in our lives – everyday, always – it’s been proven scientifically. Jon, you’re right. The reason most people don’t get what they want is they don’t believe they can get it. They don’t believe they deserve it.

I believe the first step in getting what you want is knowing what that is, then asking yourself ‘why’ you want that. That often can filter out the things you think you want, but you don’t really want. Desire is such a big part of what we attract.

Visualization, affirmations, EFT, reading empowering books and articles, supportive networks, coaching – these are all ways to change limiting beliefs into empowering ones.

    Gerat post Jonathan!

I agree that are limiting beliefs are like a stealth fighter. I really enjoyed that analogy. There are so many factors to succeeding. People seem to forget the power of taking action. I enjoyed this thank you.

So, if someone wanted to attract the gift of a brand new car without any financial sacrifice or personal effort, can that be stipulated within the visualization? What if someone wanted to just get lucky and by chance run into a philanthropist on the street who decided to share his fortune? Even better, cross paths with a wealthy religious nut who thinks the world is going to end tomorrow and decides to give his all his assets, belongings and money to the first person he sees?

There isn’t much action to take when the request….and even belief is that these persons of wealth will see you out so all you really have to do is…nothing. Just sit and wait! Otherwise, if you take any type of action toward achieving wealth through another person, then already sacrifice has been made and already it become an uncertainty and a risky proposition.

    Jonathan –

Thanks for pointing me at these articles. I’ve been giving this subject a lot of attention over the last few days. I’ll state the obvious here in that I wonder if the elimination of limiting beliefs and the use of proper goal-setting is being confused for the classic “Law of Attraction” (LoA) in operation — that is, people who think they are (or claim they are) successful with LoA are actually successful with freeing up their minds and creating meaningful goals. At very least, these latter actions could “cloud” if LoA is actually causing the results.

I do still wonder if there is something to LoA, but in terms of results, it might just not matter.

Hi. I’m really confused about the role action plays in manifestation. According to the secret, the Universe is suppose to figure out how a desire materializes. Sometimes I don’t know how to take the right action towards achieving a goal. For example, how do you take the right action if you’re unemployed looking for a job or if you’re single looking for love?
