How’s Your Self-Esteem?

by jWells on May 31, 2008

There are an increasing number of debilitating conditions that affect more and more people these days. Today, I want to begin an ongoing discussion about one that interferes with a person’s ability to set goals and pursue them.
.
Yes, I’m talking about low self-esteem
.
.
Have you ever wondered h
ow a seemingly well-balanced and productive person can end up suffering from this condition when it was never a problem in the past?
.
We also might ask what steps can help sufferers rebuild their self-esteem and regain control of their lives?
.
Well, those are big question with a lot of variables. Quite a few of the folks who have taken my quick self-improvement survey so far have expressed a concern in this area. In response to their input, I will be addressing that concern starting next week.
.
Believe it or not, many people have no clue how they ended up with low self-esteem.  I’m not talking about the more obvious cases where they were abused or neglected as children.  In situations like that the reasons are easier to pin point.
.
But what if you didn’t have an abusive or traumatic childhood? What if the problem just seemed to come into your life for no apparent reason? This is a very common problem!  Basically, a low self-esteem comes down to your personal feelings and beliefs about your worthiness and value as a person.  If you don’t believe you are valuable and deserving of good things in your life, you will have a tendency to push them away!
.
You may even shy away from healthy relationships with others, or avoid setting and achieving goals. You probably won’t push yourself to make more money because you don’t believe you deserve it, or perhaps you don’t believe you’re capable of earning it in the first place.

So having a healthy self-esteem is vital for successful personal growth and development. In reality we can all benefit from learning ways to raise our feelings of worthiness and our sense of personal value. Please join me next week as we get deeper into this subject and as always, your comments are encouraged.

Check this out!
YEAH YEAH Out Loud

The core of the program that I feel is unique to other projects available is two fold:

1) YYOL sends the message early as a foundational building block that when the going gets tough, you are your own best “cheer” leader; vs. a “fix it” later remedy.

2) The YEAH YEAH Out Loud theme helps the child realize the “cheer” leader lies within. The picture book story of Hur-Ray encouraging Kiddazy to grow into a flower and get a YYOL face (just like Hur-Ray’s) confirms that it is only after Kiddazy cheers on the other sprouts in a “pay it forward” fashion, does the understanding that it is in the cheering on of others, lies Kiddazy’s own self-esteem, and YYOL is actualized.

(our program is applicable through 2nd grade; although we also have seen it put to great use with high school kids mentoring to the younger ones….).

no getting stuck on yourself here; it’s only after “playing nice w/ your friends” and realize it’s in YOU; does YYOL “shine” through!
