Hey Christopher, we all love the reassurance of words like "it's alright." Such soothing words can do their job much easier if we make room for them but purging the toxic thoughts beforehand. Next time fear comes creeping in, try the exercise in the article followed by your words of reassurance and let me know how the combo works for you.

I do so much agree Jonathan that we have a sacred responsibility to keep our consciousness unpolluted. There is a lot of fear in this world and sometimes when I feel this fear a good antidote for me is to say to myself: "It's alright. It's alright. Everything is going to work out just fine."

My body and mind and heart seem to love to hear these words.

Hi Dandy, wow, a lifetime of journaling, that's impressive! When we write there is a special kind of transfer that takes place. Energy that existed only in thought form is transferred to paper and becomes something tangible. If that energy was negative we can actually feel a sense of freedom just by tossing it in the trash.

Hi Jonathan,
Writing out the toxic thoughts is a great exercise and it does work. I've been journaling all my life (since I learned to write actually). It is a wonderful way to analyze our thoughts and challenge them. Often we find that our limiting beliefs do not represent who we really are. Thanks Jonathan!

Hi Daisey, that sounds like a book that I need to read. It is thrilling to see science now verifying things that creative thinkers have been saying for a very long time. The potential of the human mind is a long way from being understood, but the discovery process is certainly raising some amazing possibilities.

Hi Nancy, it's exciting to see so much research involving the way our thoughts influence our reality. Personally, I think they have only just scratched the service and that there will continue to be amazing discoveries in this area. It's up to each of us to choose the positive or negative in any situation, but sometimes the negative influences can be very invasive. That's why I wanted to share this simple exercise and I am so glad you liked it. Thanks for your continued support Nancy, very appreciated.

Hey Sam, every step we take toward a more positive perception will add to our level of happiness. While there are often deeper issues involved, we all need a simple way to purge unproductive thought patterns. Let me know how it works for you!

Hi Jonathan,

What an extremely important topic this is!
I am currently reading a book called "Who Switched off my Brain" by Dr. Caroline Leaf. I highly recommend it !! She writes about the physical, biochemical and neurological processes involved in the formation of a thought and its associated emotion. She maps out how the process unfolds in the brain; how new thoughts become part of old memories or create new memories; how toxic thoughts cause chemicals to be released that actually lead to a breakdown of our immune system and cause illness. The book further lays out how to detox the brain of toxic thoughts, emotions and memories.

It's amazing how much neuroscience has discovered about the brain. The better we understand how our brains work and their connection to every part of our selves the more we can understand ourselves and our own thinking processes and work towards a healthier life on very level.
